SNV, a global development partner with over 60 years of experience, is seeking a Senior Intern to support the SUSTAIN Eco Programme. The role focuses on conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable land and water resource management, and strengthening community-based natural resource governance in the Sumbawanga Landscape. This is a junior-level position offering valuable field experience in conservation and climate-resilient livelihoods.
Requirements
- Degree in ecology, forest conservation, natural resources, environmental science, land use planning, or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in natural resource management, conservation, land use, or environmental management in Tanzania
- Knowledge of land use and natural resource monitoring tools
- Experience facilitating multi-stakeholder platforms and dialogues
- Experience in international organizations and multi-cultural settings
- Willingness to travel to remote rural areas
- Experience with carbon credit schemes is an advantage
- Knowledge of sustainable fishing approaches is desirable
- Understanding of climate resilience and Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) approaches is an advantage
- Technical skills in land use planning, forest management, and sustainable agriculture
- GIS and remote sensing skills for producing spatial data and maps
- Strong coordination and facilitation abilities in rural settings
- Report writing and documentation skills
- Problem-solving mindset with willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with Tanzania’s land and environmental policies is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS
- Fluency in English and Swahili, with strong report writing and presentation skills
Responsibilities
- Support land use planning processes, including supervision of land parcel demarcation and issuance of CCROs in collaboration with LGAs
- Assist in preparation of JFRMPs and CBFM plans and facilitate gazettement of village forests
- Strengthen capacity of VLUMs, VNRCs, and WUAs
- Support beekeeping groups to enhance their capacity and integrate into the honey value chain
- Encourage women and youth champions to engage in resource management and governance
- Produce satellite maps and GIS data products for land use and forest monitoring
- Promote climate-smart agriculture, reforestation, and forest regeneration
- Coordinate with stakeholders such as Lake Rukwa Basin Water Board, TANAPA, NGOs, and local groups
- Monitor and evaluate project performance related to land use and natural resources
- Support environmental education and enforcement of protected buffer zones
- Assist in drafting project progress reports
- Ensure compliance with SNV procedures and policies
- Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager or management team
