Test Meter Engineer

Job Description

M-Gas, a provider of clean cooking fuel in Tanzania through its 'Pay-As-You-Cook' model, is seeking a Test Meter Engineer to support its operations in Dar es Salaam. The company leverages smart meter technology to make LPG gas affordable, delivering cylinders and stoves to customers’ homes. The Test Meter Engineer will focus on testing, analyzing, and debugging smart meter systems to ensure reliable performance, supporting M-Gas’s mission to provide accessible clean energy solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
• 2-4 years’ experience working in a similar role
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Ability to read circuit schematics and board layouts in an electronic CAD program
• Experience analyzing and debugging electronics at the PCB level
• Knowledge of hardware (embedded hardware) and firmware interaction (advantageous)
• Experience with query language (SQL) (advantageous)
• Enthusiasm to continually improve skills and learn new technologies
• Familiarity with smart meter technology or IoT systems

Responsibilities

• Test and validate smart meter systems for accurate gas usage tracking
• Analyze and debug electronics at the PCB level to ensure system reliability
• Read and interpret circuit schematics and board layouts using electronic CAD tools
• Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues
• Support the development and testing of embedded hardware and firmware interactions
• Use query language (SQL) to analyze data from smart meter systems when required
• Document test results, technical findings, and debugging processes
• Contribute to the improvement of smart meter technology and IoT systems
• Participate in field testing and validation of smart meters at customer sites
• Stay updated with new technologies and apply knowledge to enhance system performance
